A Need for Civility & not Just Online: McKinsey Report
Bill Anderson's latest post regarding "civility" reminded me of a thought provoking conversation with Bill and Nancy White more than a year ago as they prepared for their SXSW Conference session on Blog Civility. Sadly recent online events and exchanges have highlighted how essential are both their presentation and paying attention to civility.
With "interesting" timing the latest McKinsey Quarterly carries a book excerpt "Building the Civilized Workplace" alerting us to the real world issues and cost of uncivility:
"Nasty people don't just make others feel miserable; they create economic problems for their companies."
One can only hope the pain endured through recent events, and current attention to civility both online and in the workplace around the Robert Sutton book will have positive outcomes in more respectful behavior in both the real and virtual worlds. But will they?
